Military aircraft tracker and callsign guide
Military aviation runs on conventions: a callsign block tells you the mission before the aircraft type does. TrackWanted's tactical mode follows 18 documented callsign patterns — strategic airlift, aerial refuelling, airborne early warning, ISR and VVIP transport — and explains in plain language what each sortie type usually means.
Reading a military callsign
RCH (Reach) marks US Air Mobility Command airlift — cargo and troop movement, usually a C-17 or C-5. SAM (Special Air Mission) is USAF distinguished -visitor transport. NATO E-3A flights broadcast their own alliance block, and most air forces reserve dedicated blocks for tankers and reconnaissance.
Sortie type matters more than a single track: a tanker orbiting a fixed racetrack usually means fighters are working nearby, and a sudden airlift surge into one theatre is often the first publicly visible sign of a deployment.

Limits of open military tracking
Combat aircraft on operational missions routinely fly with their transponders off, and many air forces filter their fleets out of public feeds entirely. Anything visible in the open is therefore a partial picture — useful for understanding logistics and posture, useless for predicting operations. TrackWanted's tactical view is built for that first purpose only.
