A single transcontinental business-jet leg emits more carbon than the average person does in a year. Because aircraft registrations and most transponder broadcasts are public records, anyone can see the pattern: short hops between the same three cities, repositioning flights with nobody on board, and fleets that fly more hours empty than full.

Every tail number shown in the app links out to the FAA registry and to Planespotters, so a reader can confirm the aircraft exists and who it is registered to rather than trusting a label on a screen.

Per-flight CO₂ is modelled from the airframe's published fuel burn, the great-circle distance between the two airports and a standard jet-fuel emission factor of 3.16 kg of CO₂ per kilogram of fuel. It is an estimate of the order of magnitude, not a billed figure, and the dashboard converts it into everyday equivalences — car-years, household-years, trees — so the number means something.
